Cafe Kitchen - Mission St.:

The person we are looking for is hard working, punctual, reliable, professional, able to work on a timeline, works with a natural hustle without losing attention to detail, and willing to help out outside of their specific assigned tasks as time allows. This person must be comfortable working independently as well as with a team. The team you will be joining is welcoming, hard-working, professional, and fun. We get a lot done in a day, and if this sounds like a team you would fit into, we want to meet you! Compensation range: $21+/hr (base pay $16hr + 5/hr in tips)

Pastry Baker - Aptos, Mission St.:

The person we are looking for is hard working, punctual, reliable, professional, able to work on a timeline, works with a natural hustle without losing attention to detail, and willing to help out outside of their specific assigned tasks as time allows. This person must be comfortable working independently as well as with a team. The team you will be joining is welcoming, hard-working, professional, and fun. We get a lot done in a day, and if this sounds like a team you would fit into, we want to meet you! Compensation range: $20-23/hr (base pay $18-21/hr + ~2/hr in tips)
*Must be available and willing to work at least 1 early morning bake shift per week (2am start time) - compensation at the top of listed range for all 2am shifts worked.

Front of House Manager - Mission St.:

We are currently hiring for a Front of House (FOH) Floor Manager at our Westside location on Mission Street.  This position is the pinnacle of leadership for our FOH retail area at Companion. They are part of the team that stewards the culture at Companion, working closely with our leadership team, our Market and Community Outreach lead and our Retail Floor manager at our Aptos location, to represent true Companion values to our community.  This makes for a dynamic role; one that involves administrative work and time on the floor, as well as creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive culture of teamwork, upholding the integrity of the front of house job. The FOH manager handles all scheduling for their team, and oversees a cafe supervisor who is responsible for sharing day-to-day leadership and implementing systems put into place by the retail manager.

This is a full-time position.  Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

Floor Management & Personnel:

  • Hiring, Onboarding & Training

    • Start new employees with selling pastries, opening & closing

    • After probationary period start to train employees on opening and closing bar

      • Doesn’t require employee to be bar trained

    • Train employees on bar after a. and b. are completed

  • Scheduling in accordance with Companion’s scheduling protocol

  • Approving and coordinating time off requests for supervisors & full team

  • Upholding and facilitating Companion customer service protocol

  • Upholding Companion dress code expectations

  • Managing communication and sending weekly updates and communication to team via homebase

  • Regular one-on-one check-in meetings with team members to see how they are doing

  • Regular one-on-ones with supervisor for support, guidance and open lines of communication 

  • Arranging quarterly meetings with staff; Meetings with supervisors & managers as needed

  • Work in conjunction with the leadership team to set up quarterly meetings with Front of House staff

  • Communicating with managers from other teams, and upper management effectively

  • Oversight / Organizing customer flow during open hours

  • Work with 11th Hour Coffee regarding espresso bar training and coffee machine maintenance

  • Work with the leadership team to 

    • create shifts when necessary

    • create effective training schedules

    • keep all shift guides up to date

    • keep all signage up to date

    • keep the Red Book practice flowing and up to date

Cash Handling 

  1. Collect tips on designated day and distribute 

  2. Keep change bag in registers up to date with cash (communicate with upper management when change is low)

Retail Space - work with Market & Community Outreach lead to:

  1. Keep display for merchandise up to date & keep record of sales

  2. Manage music playlists 

  3. Maintain appropriate ambiance

  4. Inventory of all items for sale

  5. Weekly order of paper goods for the Market

  6. Keep up with overall cleanliness, aesthetics and the customer experience

  7. Collaborate on community events, fundraisers and other related happenings 

  8. Supports tracking sales, waste logs, and other internal tracking tools to maintain inventory and prep numbers that do not lead to lots of waste.

Product supervision (work with Culinary Manager to:)

  1. System for waste management / communication with pick-up/drop-offs as necessary

  2. Keep product prices and offering consistency 

  3. Provide a template for how pastry cases are “displayed” with product

Compensation:

Depends on experience - with room to grow, in regular reviews.
